When I heard about big bike touring in Thailand on Harley Davidson motorcycles, I was a really intrigued. I knew Thailand was a beautiful country with many different landscapes from the coastal roads down in the south to the flat plains of Issan, to the beautiful unspoilt mountain ranges of the North-east and the Golden Triangle but I was also concerned how the tour would be run!  Upon meeting the Dave the directory of V-Twin Tours in Phuket, my concern for the tour was soon eased. Very professional yet fun in everything he did, from correspondence before arriving, to the actual tour. The bikes were all well maintained and a support truck rides along as well, carrying any luggage and a full tool kit, in the unlikely event a spare bike for major breakdown. Also soft drinks are carried which was refreshing.
There were nine of us in the tour group, with Dave as the guide. His knowledge of the roads
and highways is nothing short of amazing. Our 2,000 kilometer tour began from Phuket and driving through the lower half of the country is just stunning to say the least, beautiful coastal roads and fantastic scenery. Stops are made along the way for you to take photo’s at the many view points. Dave stops at the popular sites, temples, and historical towns, and shares his vast knowledge of the culture of Thailand. The daily rides are 200 to 500 km’s with many stops in between, a relaxing pace that lets all the riders enjoy the beauty Thailand has to offer. Overnight stops are a great way to get to really meet the other riders, many Thai and also a lot of expats, infact everywhere we stopped overnight Dave knew of someone who would tell us of the local area. Accommodation was second to non all the hotels were either 4* or 5* with full breakfast, swimming pools, and sea view where available, booked well in advance by Dave himself. The Thai food is very mouth watering, the restaurants we went to were used by locals, therefore the food was excellent and very inexpensive. Every facet of the tour has been very well planned out, nothing is missed. Several of the days are just for sightseeing, either in the group or by yourself, the culture is simply amazing,
and the Thai people are truly friendly, even when they do see a large group of Harleys ride into their villages. We were treated wonderfully by everyone we met, whether in a larger city or the tiniest village.  The roads and highways traveled are well maintained and surprisingly, well marked, with many of the signs in English as well. Up in Northern Thailand, it was spectacular, riding through the mountains, winding roads, wonderful sights along the way. In Southern Thailand, the scenery is much different but beautiful to see, the beautiful shorelines and beaches, the limestone mountains, truly a great ride!
V-Twin Tours has our sincerest thanks for providing such a great tour. All the riders in the group were professional and we have made a lot of friends too. We’ll certainly be back for another of Dave’s great tours. It really is a bikers dream ride come true!
